Hi there i am new to cctv and have fitted a few basic systems .i always like to expand my knoledge and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the loop function on dvr's is used for and what would be the best situation when it can be used and also the same for the call monitor port connection.thanks andy
Thankyou for your reply i ment to say call mointor. On every dvr i have seen there is an out put for the monitor but there is also a call monitor connection i assume this is for a secondary monitor but i just wanted it confirmed. i also wondered what would be an ideal scenerio to use the call monitor.
a call monitor usually allows you to have a second monitor that switches between cameras. You can normally control the dwell time ( speed ) in which the cameras switch from one to another. This allows you to have the main monitor with a 16ch view and another monitor switching between cameras. As an example you can have the main monitor in an office with the DVR and maybe have the call monitor in the lobby or storefront switching between cameras.
The loop through on a dvr or muliplexer is for connecting other equipment to the video signals, say you have a control room with a 16 channel dvr,you might have say six PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom )cameras connected to channels 1-6,you could put in place 6 additional monitors from each loop channel.
Now the security person can watch all sixteen channels, and instantly have access to each of the six ptz cameras in full screen.
